24 Jun And dreams themselves, are a dream
Individual exhibition “And dreams themselves, are a dream” at the Vanguardia Gallery in Bilbao that can be visited from June 21 to July 31, 2019
The artist María Muñoz reaches her creative maturity with this exhibition, conclusion of her particular artistic career in which she has always incorporated part of her personal experiences to the pieces of art, so that one could almost trace her life through her work.
After overcoming a complicated illness, she overlooks a new creative horizon as if it were a balcony to her dreams. The reality seems illusion and the figures characters of a frozen theater that, at any moment, give the impression they will come to life. The theatre of dreams.
Returning from a long time to the traditional format of the canvas, complementing the exhibition with her usual sculptural pieces, María Muñoz has created a work of deep sensitivity with the particular aesthetics of her own style, a personal narrative that flirts with poetry, with baroque theater, with magic, with mysticism, with impermanence.
Are we owners of our own fate or puppets of it? There are no answers. In this exhibition there are only suggestions, there are questions that leave space for the visitor to extract his personal reading. The own figures that contain the works seem to have the same doubts as the observer on the other side of the mirror.
The artist proposes a dream to the spectator; the dream of life. As if we were just dreaming that we are here, in this exhibition, watching these paintings. At night, when the lights go out, when everything is submerged in darkness and people sleep, the figures of the canvases awaken. That is when they stop dreaming and live their own reality.
